POLLENCA MALLORCA VISIT

Hello All
A few lines on last weeks break…
We had wonderful weather up to 32 degrees of sun and warm nights.
We picked Pollenca as it was near the coast with a lot of interest and yet with a number of beaches adjacent
The town is quite small with max two local hotels but with plenty of restaurants and lovely little squares which are filled with bars and otherwise limited nightlife…i.e. it’s not for a gang of lads out for the beer…but will appeal to people wanting to chill out (if that’s possible at 32 degrees ) !!
Puerto Pollenca is nearby and has a great stretch of beach which almost joins up on the right with Port Alcudia a couple of miles along the coast, Puerto Pollenca has plenty of Hotels and restaurants and a good number of hotels and apartments, some of the older hotels are on the smaller pocket handkerchief beaches to the left side with a lot of concrete on the promenade, but still with lots of charm and plenty of tourists. We visited the Hotel Illa D’or built in 1920’s but developed and extended and with great character and friendly staff, this however is one with minimal beach in front, approx 8 minutes walk to the main beach along the promenade.
Visited the famous Hotel Formentor, superb location with acres and acres of well maintained gardens, this hotel has a long history of famous guests, however the interior while not worn has a somewhat dated look and need some money spent on it
Definitely for somebody who wants to get away and never be found and is expensive Note almost no rooms with balcony, note also that this part of Mallorca is very mountainous and this hotel is a serious drive around many hairpin bends.
All my gang fell for Calle San Vincente which is on the same peninsula as Formentor (but not as far) with very small but pretty coves with some apartments and a number of well know hotels, good for families but is hilly, also saw lots of scuba divers and found a superb little 5 star gem – Hotel La Moraleja – this has a collection of 12/15 antique cars in a showroom like setting and wonderful original paintings on the walls, it has only 17 rooms/suits in total and is for people with exclusive in mind but not remote (like Formentor)
All in all, this is not the Mallorca of Pamla Nova or Can Pastilla, but it is a side of Mallorca that will appeal to people who do not wish to go far and have all the facilities at hand
